I’m headed to Stafford, Texas this weekend for the Bedrock City Comic Con - a two-day comic book convention.
I’m looking forward to selling some copies of WHERE WOLF and meeting fellow local creators but I’m kinda worried I’m going to make an ass out of myself and excessively fanboy out around Terry Moore. After reading about the series for half my life in places like Wizard Magazine, I finally started reading Moore’s seminal comic book STRANGERS IN PARADISE and I’m head-over-heels in love with it. I’m also excited to pick up a autographed copy of STRAY DOGS from writer Tony Fleecs. If you’ve never read Fleecs’ book, you’re missing out - it’s a cross between ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN and SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Fingers crossed I don’t spend my entire earnings on comic books!
Bedrock City Comic Con runs 10 AM to 6 PM Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $20 and kids under twelve get in free. You can buy badges here.
In other news, I stopped by the Barnes and Noble in Pearland last weekend and spotted WHERE WOLF included in a “buy one, get one half-off” horror book promotion. I sure hope that folks who go to the store to pick up a copy of my comic use the discount to take a chance on promising new talent like this Stephen King fellow. If you live in the Houston area, WHERE WOLF is currently carried at the Town & Country, Pearland, Copperfield, Pasadena and Baybrook locations. Excitedly, the comic is also being carried at the Beaumont location (I was born in Beaumont!) and in College mf’n Station!!!
That same weekend I also stopped by Half Price Books and found a copy of WHERE WOLF among the stacks. I feel like I’ve unlocked an achievement as an author by finding a copy of my book in a used bookstore.
Besides Bedrock Comic Con, I have a few other events scheduled for the rest of the year. I’ll be screening the Brazilian werewolf gem GOOD MANNERS at the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston on Friday, October 27. On Saturday, December 2 I’ll be tabling at the 2023 Houston Comic Indie Con. Looking ahead to 2024, I’ll have a table at the Ghoulish Book Festival in San Antonio.
If you haven’t left a review on Amazon or Goodreads, please consider it. It all helps so dang much. I have an internal goal to hit 50 ratings on Goodreads and 20 ratings on Amazon before the end of the year. I have 19 ratings to go on Goodreads and 12 to go on Amazon to make this goal happen so your help means inconsequential, arborary dreams are coming true.
Finally, here’s a look at an upcoming WHERE WOLF cover. I’m still not sure whether or not THE CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF will be released serialized as a webcomic again or if I’ll just release it as one big book when it’s finished, but - regardless - I wanted to create some covers to represent the individual chapters. I’m head over heels in love with Debora Lancianese’s artwork on this, along with Jack Morelli’s lettering.
More soon but, in the meantime, beware the moon!
