Comicpalooza is Houston’s largest comic book and pop culture convention. I’ve had a table for the last two years and have had a lot of fun slinging comics. I was hoping that I’d have copies of my second graphic novel, THE CURSE OF THE WHERE WOLF, ready to sell by Comicpalooza this year. Considering the convention starts tomorrow, and my comic has yet not seen the shiny side of any printer, that dream was dashed a while ago. All in all, I’m still looking forward to participating in Comicpalooza this year.
I’ll be tabling at booth 3206 and selling copies of my first graphic novel, WHERE WOLF, in paperback, variant, and hardcover editions. I had these elaborate plans to also have activity books, coloring sheets, art prints, and other merchandise available to sell, but work has been a bit busy lately, and time ran out. I have a little under 48 hours, though, so let’s see what kind of magic I can pull off at the last minute. It’s not all a bust, though, as I’ll be proudly showing off a four-foot-tall werewolf statue that my friend Jarreth Golding made for my booth earlier this summer.
He’s a big boy!
In addition, my wife Lucía has been working on some crochet werewolves she’ll be selling at the booth. I don’t have a picture of them handy, but they are tiny boys!
In addition, I’ll be participating in three panels on Saturday: At 12 PM, I’ll be moderating the “Horror for the 21st Century: Film and Literature” panel. At 3 PM, I’ll be moderating a spotlight panel with Paul Tremblay. At 7:30 PM, I’ll be participating in a “Humor in Fiction: A Laugh to Stomach the Pain” panel. Finally, at 9 PM, I’ll be participating in a “Live Action Author Reading” event. All panels and events will take place in room 350-DE.
In more concrete WHERE WOLF news, I launched a new website this week!
A few weeks back, I finished work on my second graphic novel. It'll be published later this fall, but in the meantime, I wanted to re-release my first graphic novel as a webcomic, with a new scrolling reading platform. I know next to nothing about web design. Luckily, I married a badass.
Presenting: the new and improved website! Designed by my wife and featuring the first of what will be weekly online webcomic drops, this site is better than I ever could have hoped for.
I'm very proud of the work I did with Debora Lancianese and Jack Morelli on both WHERE WOLF and THE CURSE OF THE WHERE WOLF, and I wanted to give folks a chance to see the comic in a brand-new way. The scrolling format is hip and fun and not at all a pain in the ass to put together... mostly.
Check out the site, read the comic (new pages every Wednesday), and maybe buy a copy of the book so I can keep making more comics.
See you at Comicpalooza!
