In April I kicked off a 26-city book tour in support of WHERE WOLF, the lycanthropic whodunit funny book I made with Debora Lancianese and Jack Morelli. This past Tuesday, that tour finished with a signing at the Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh. I can’t think of a more fitting way to end the experiment with a screening of SILVER BULLET on the night of a full moon in a college town where the local mascot is Tuffy the Wolf.
It was a great experience and I learned a lot about how to do a successful book tour. Chief among them, if you’re an unknown author, ride the coattails of the most popular movies you can find. I hitched my book signings to screenings of SILVER BULLET, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and THE HOWLING and the result was spectacular. Every screening was nearly sold-out and I met almost 2,000 lycanthropy hounds and talked to them about my book.
I definitely want to do another book tour down the road, but way, way down the road. A life spent in hotel rooms is expensive and draining - both emotionally and physically. I am looking forward to a few months spent recovering financially and mentally. That said, I do have a few more events on the horizon.
On Saturday, August 26, I’ll be participating in the Author Indie Book Fair in Houston at Spring Street Studios. The event is from 10 AM to 6 PM and free to attend. Come out and grab a book or a sticker. If you ask nicely, I might even let you peak at some of the artwork for THE CURSE OF THE WHERE WOLF that’s been coming in from Deb and Jack.
In late September, I’ll be doing something fun with Fantastic Fest - more news about that soon.
On Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8, I’ll be set up at Bedrock City Comic Con in Stafford, Texas.
And finally, on Friday, October 27, I’ll be doing an event with the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (more information soon).
As a reminder, if you live in Houston or Dallas, you can pick up a copy of WHERE WOLF at a cool local indie bookstore (Brazos in Houston and Whose Books in Dallas). It looks like Half Price Books also has a used copy in stock in Austin (which one of you sold your book!)
I’ll probably have a few more events lined up before the end of the year and I’ll definitely add some stuff to my calendar for next year, but all events will be like my bowel movements - sporadic and announced well in advance.
In the meantime, I’m hard at work on THE CURSE OF THE WHERE WOLF plus another writing project I’m hoping to kick off in the next few weeks. I also promise to do more regular newsletter posts now that I’m at home more frequently.
Before I scoot off, I have one more favor to ask. If you’ve read WHERE WOLF, please consider leaving a review on Goodreads or Amazon. It can be a simple rating or a full-on review. It all helps.
Back with something else next week!
