Tonight marks the first full moon of 2024 - and it’s a Wolf Moon! Yep, that means it’s time for another WHERE WOLF check-in.
It’s been an exciting few weeks in the world of WHERE WOLF. There’s a lot of stuff I can’t talk about yet, but I can share that I’m still hard at work on the next book in the series alongside my creative partners Debora Lancianese and Jack Morelli. The script for the sequel is 100 percent written and, alongside my team, we’ve completed 110 fully lettered pages and an additional 29 pages of art awaiting Jack’s expert lettering. This represents a little under half of the book. Well, maybe a little less than “a little.”
THE CURSE OF THE WHERE WOLF wound up being quite the epic. It goes in some pretty wild directions but - from tail to snout - it still represents the themes I set out to explore when I first started writing WHERE WOLF back in 2020. I can’t wait for you guys to read what I’ve been working on. Only a handful of people have seen WHERE WOLF 2 so far but I think I’m going to start sharing the first five chapters with some beta readers next month. I’m eager to get some feedback while I’m still able to make changes to the story, dialogue, and pacing. Making comics is an expensive endeavor and what I learned with the first WHERE WOLF is that there is 100 percent a point where it becomes too costly to go backward and make changes.
I shared this on social media already, but here’s a look at what we’ve been working on:
In other news, we’ve almost hit the year anniversary of when I kicked off my Werewolves Across America book tour and first started selling copies of WHERE WOLF. If you’re reading this newsletter and you still haven’t actually *read* WHERE WOLF … don’t tell me! Just read the book already!
You can pick up a copy of WHERE WOLF at Brazos Bookstore in Houston; Whose Books in Dallas; Barnes and Noble in Houston, College Station and Port Arthur; Amazon; and directly from the publisher. If you know a shop where WHERE WOLF is also being sold, please let me know so I can spread the word.
In addition, WHERE WOLF is available to check out of the Houston Public Library, Texas A&M University’s library, Waco-McLennan County Library, Texas Tech University Libraries, Kenton County Public Library, Sno-Isle Library, and even LIBRIS in Sweden!
And if you *have* read WHERE WOLF, I could use your help in rating or reviewing the book. These ratings help legitimize the book and send it spiraling down the rabbit hole of recommendation algorithms. Or at least that’s what BookTok tells me. Please consider leaving a review on Amazon, Goodreads, or this cool new site I just learned about called The Story Graph.
Finally, I’ll be attending the Ghoulish Book Festival in San Antonio on March 15 - 17. There’s a great line-up of authors attending the event and I’m excited to be a part of the event. You can buy your badge and learn more about the festival here.
That’s all the WHERE WOLF updates for January 2024. More news to share soon, I hope! In the meantime, beware the moon!
PS - I’ve written twenty pages of my next project. There aren’t any werewolves in it but it does feature a monster or two. It’s working title is called DOES THE DOG DIE.
